Gold Metal Detectors Make Prospecting Easier

If metal detectors had been around in 1849 the gold rush may have been a lot easier for the settlers to become rich. Instead of digging for days and panning streams, going on nothing but a hunch, they could have used gold metal detectors in their search for nuggets. Most are designed to detect coin-sized metals as deep as six-inches and larger, nugget-sized items up to two feet underground.

The average treasure hunter may be disappointed when using a metal detector built for the hobbyist. It may not have the depth range or sensitivity to find the small pieces of gold near the surface or the larger ones deeper down. Many of today's gold prospectors insist most of the larger pieces closest to the surface have been found and they use specialized gold metal detectors to reach further down for the big pieces that remain.

Discriminators are also a benefit for gold metal detectors as they can tune out metals such as steel and iron and concentrate their efforts on gold, silver or other precious metals. This can save a of time as it takes the same amount of time and effort to dig 18-inches for a piece of gold as it does for an old can buried in the ground.

Panning Is Fun But Detecting Is Quicker

While many places still offer visitors the opportunity to wade into a stream with a pie pan filled with holes to search for gold, gold metal detectors, especially if equipped with open coils, can see into the water and pinpoint any metal substances it finds. Typically, there may be a few seconds delay in the signal being given, but passing over an area slowly will often set off the signal, enabling the user to reverse their direction to help find the item that alerted the gold metal detectors.

Many people will spend days or even weeks based on an old legend about the existence of gold. Whether they expect to find a few nuggets or a large vein, they spend every moment available with their gold metal detectors hoping to strike it rich. For some, the potential to find a fortune is the lure. For others, being able to take their gold metal detectors into the wilderness and search for enough precious metal to pay for their detector is satisfaction enough.

Those planning to head into the rivers and locations of past finds of riches will want good quality gold metal detectors to prevent the likelihood of going home empty handed and disappointed.
